YZY put a $20 raincoat on yeezy.com at noon on Christmas Day

At noon Pacific on 25 Dec 2024, yeezy.com published RC-01 03: a long hooded raincoat in mocha, with Вестник Трибун across the back. It retailed at $20, and the store tagged it christmas. The page had been ready since 22 Dec. It just wasn’t live.

The raincoat opened Gosha Rubchinskiy’s Tribune collection for YZY, nine pieces that Hypebeast’s Joyce Li wrote up the next day, every one of them $20. Outerwear, printed, for the price of a tee: it’s the $20 idea pushed about as far as it goes. Hypebeast framed the collection as Rubchinskiy’s follow-up to his “Gosha” drop that March, and he’d been YZY’s head of design for almost a year.

48 minutes later, blank

At 12:48 Pacific the same day, yeezy.com put up RC-01 04 BLANK. It’s the same coat in charcoal, with the type taken off. The white TS-01 tee’s page was live that day too. Every piece came in 02 white, 03 mocha and 04 charcoal, and yeezy.com listed blank versions of each.

N3N and the SP-06

The TS-01 is a boxy tee with N3N across the chest, and yeezy.com’s SKUs for it read tee-shirt-n3n. The SP-06 is the cuffed jogger, with the print at the hip. Both went up with the rest of the collection at $20. Hypebeast ran YZY’s own images, and they’ve got the RC-01 shot from the back in charcoal and mocha.

A New York paper, a French film

The type’s Cyrillic, after The New York Herald Tribune, and Hypebeast says it takes from Godard’s Breathless as well. Ye’d already road-tested it. He wore the white SP-01, the print down the leg, in Tokyo two months before the drop, in footage TMZ ran on 30 Oct 2024.

A New York newspaper and a French film, set in Russian on a $20 raincoat, went up on Christmas Day. The same coat followed 48 minutes later, and it didn’t say a word.
