Gap pulled the line in October 2022 before the zip-ups arrived. A year later What’z Up had them on a rail in Tokyo, sun-faded, with a blue YZY tab and a Made in Indonesia label.

What’z Up is a secondhand store in Harajuku. From 28 Oct 2023 it ran a pop-up of Yeezy Gap zip-ups and pullover hoodies at its Harajuku and Sendai shops, then put them online. Hypebeast listed them in grey, charcoal grey, navy and black: soft fleece, processed hard, with sun fading that’d left each one a slightly different tone.

In Ye’s time at Gap, a zip-up never came out, Highsnobiety noted, and the Perfect Hoodie was the hoodie people knew. The zip-ups were meant to come next, probably in 2023. The line shut in October 2022, before they’d arrived.

A blue YZY tab, made in Indonesia

What’z Up didn’t tell Highsnobiety where they came from. The store’s own photos show the details that matter: a blue YZY tab inside the neck, a size, and “Made in Indonesia”. The pullovers in the October set have drawstrings. The zip-ups don’t.

Highsnobiety called the zip-ups a successor to the Perfect Hoodie. It said they looked quite complete for samples, and might be finished pieces Gap pulled somewhere between production and sale.

November: beige, sweatpants, more fade

What’z Up came back on 22 Nov 2023 with more: two new zip-up colours, sweatpants in the same fade and a restock of some hoodies. The range now ran beige, charcoal grey, navy and black, and they’d pushed the wash further. Highsnobiety called it an extra-washed-out version, in “hefty, double-faced cotton jersey”.

Highsnobiety didn’t know the source for sure. Its best guess was Xianyu, Taobao’s secondhand market, where Yeezy Gap pieces Gap never sold had been turning up since at least early 2023.

Poetic Black, and one navy on yeezy.com

Resale gave them new names. The most washed ones sell as Poetic Black and Poetic Grey, and StockX’s Poetic Black reads “Faded Acid Wash”. One zip-up did get an official listing later: yeezy.com had a navy one up in April 2024, and it’d sold out by the time the archive caught it.

The Perfect Hoodie’s successor did reach buyers in the end. It just took a vintage store in Harajuku and, for one navy zip-up, Ye’s own site, a year and a half after the line it’d been made for had ended.
