Gap never sold Yeezy Gap’s fleece yoke tee. StockX still calls it Balenciaga

Most of what Yeezy Gap made, you could buy. The Round Jacket and the Perfect Hoodie went through gap.com, and the Balenciaga pieces went up on yeezygap.com drop by drop. The fleece back yoke tee never did. It isn’t among the product pages the Wayback Machine archived on yeezygap.com, from December 2021 until Gap shut the site on 25 Oct 2022. It didn’t turn up in yeezy.com’s 2024 listings either, where two other Gap pieces did.

That leaves a tee with no store page and no retail price on record. Depending on who you ask, it’s got two style numbers. It’s also picked up a Balenciaga label it never earned. Resale has been busy filling in the blanks.

Bronze, bluestone and “Pavement”

It’s a short-sleeve tee in fleece, boxy and cropped, with a blue YZY tab at the neck and hems that look left raw. The photos yzylibrary files for it, which it credits to Gap, show three colours: bronze, bluestone, and a grey it calls Pavement. None of them is a flat colour. Each one’s faded unevenly, darker at the edges.

$53 million of inventory

When the line ended, there was stock left over. Gap’s results for the quarter after the split carried $53 million in impairment charges tied to discontinuing Yeezy Gap, “primarily related to inventory”. A year later, in November 2023, Highsnobiety reported that Yeezy Gap pieces Gap never sold had been coming out through Xianyu, Taobao’s secondhand market, since at least early 2023. Its best guess was manufacturers who’d been left holding the stock.

Balenciaga, according to StockX

The yoke tee resells now. StockX lists the bronze and files it under Engineered by Balenciaga. It isn’t one of the Engineered by Balenciaga lines, and the retail price StockX shows for it has no store record behind it.

792995 or 792906

Even the number’s in doubt. Two style numbers go around for it: 792995, and yzylibrary’s 792906. It stays disputed here until one of them is proven.

The answer should be on the care label. Nobody’s put a photo of one on the record yet.
