Ye wore the Herald Tribune down one leg in Tokyo, two months early

At the end of October 2024 Ye stepped out in Tokyo in an all-white hoodie and sweatpants. TMZ ran BACKGRID’s footage on 30 Oct, and Page Six placed it at a private Maison Margiela party in Shibuya. The video catches the left leg of the sweatpants, and that’s the part that matters: Вестник Трибун, in black gothic type, running down the leg.

It’s Russian for Herald Tribune. The pants were YZY’s SP-01, and nobody could buy them for another two months. (The outlets don’t agree on the night. TMZ put the outing the night before its story, and Page Six dated the party 30 Oct.)

26 Dec 2024: nine pieces from Gosha

On 26 Dec 2024 Hypebeast reported a nine-piece collection from Gosha Rubchinskiy, Yeezy’s head of design. It ran to tight tees, cropped hoodies, sweatpants, shorts and socks, in what Hypebeast called white, grey and black. The Cyrillic type pays homage to The New York Herald Tribune and takes from Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless, Hypebeast said. (So it’s an American newspaper’s name, in Russian letters, by way of a French film.)

The campaign images, credited to YZY, put the SP-01 with the TS-02 raglan tee, and the WB-01 windbreaker with the SH-01 shorts. It’s plain clothing, and the type does all the talking.

Codes, not names

yeezy.com didn’t name the colours so much as number them: 02 white, 03 mocha, 04 charcoal. The SP-01 is the wide sweatpant with the print down the leg. The SP-06 is the cuffed jogger with it at the hip, and the HD-01 hoodie carries it across the chest. The WB-01 and the SH-01 swap the words for round emblems.

That makes Ye’s Tokyo pair easy to place, down to the colour. His white hoodie is harder. It doesn’t show a print in the footage, so it can’t be matched to any one piece.

In Shibuya it was a newspaper’s name down one leg of a white sweatpant. By the end of December it had a product code: SP-01 02.
