The Yeezy Slide was one piece of foam, and it out-ranked Prada

There isn’t much to a Yeezy Slide. It’s one piece of EVA foam, with a softer layer on the footbed and a sole cut in deep grooves, like teeth. That was enough to make it the hottest men’s product in fashion.

Kim Kardashian had a pair on her Instagram story in late October 2019, and it didn’t take adidas long: five weeks later it had official images and a date. The slide came out on 6 Dec 2019 in Bone, Resin and Desert Sand, at $55 for adults and $45 for kids, Hypebeast reported. Every colour came in adult, kids and infant sizes. Desert Sand stayed on Yeezy Supply, while Bone and Resin also went up on adidas.com, but only in select markets outside the US and Europe.

Ahead of Prada on the Lyst Index

In July 2021 Lyst named the Yeezy Slide the hottest men’s product of the quarter, ahead of Prada’s PRAX 01 sneakers and Off-White’s Virgil sunglasses. It’s an index built on Google searches, social media mentions and what shoppers actually buy.

adidas didn’t let up on colours. A bright Glow Green landed that year, and Pure and Soot came back in September 2021.

Ye calls out the Adilette 22

Then Ye turned on his own partner. On 13 Jun 2022 he posted on Instagram, addressed to adidas CEO Kasper Rørsted, that the new Adilette 22 was a copy of his slide. The post didn’t stay up.

Complex’s Brendan Dunne took Ye’s side. The similarities were clear, he wrote, and the Adilette 22 looked like a “Yeezy-fied” one-piece in pale, earthy tones.

After the split, more slides

adidas ended the partnership on 25 Oct 2022. It kept releasing the slide anyway, from Azure in May 2023 right through Dark Onyx and Salt in March 2024.

Ye didn’t let the name go either. In January 2025 he posted YZY’s new SL-01, a slip-on with no adidas anywhere near it, and captioned it The Yeezy Slides.
